Read to Rise

Read to Rise is the name of the CapEd hot air balloon. You can find Read to Rise at the Annual Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic where CapEd is the presenting sponsor. If you participate in our reading program, you may also get a chance to see a Read to Rise hot air balloon demonstration at your school!

Participate in the Reading Program

Elementary school students are eligible to participate in the free Read to Rise reading program. Participation in CapEd's Reading Program could earn your school a visit by the Read to Rise balloon! NEW this year are cash prizes for the top 5 schools! The TOP school receives $800. The 2nd- 5th place schools each receive $300.

The Read to Rise reading program concluded on April 1, 2021 for the 2020 - 2021 school year. Please view the top 5 winning schools listed below.

How to use Reader Zone

Reader Zone can be used on a mobile phone or a desktop computer.

Mobile Application Instructions

Here are the steps to get started with the mobile app.

Step One: Download the Reader Zone app

The Reader Zone app is a convenient way to track your child’s minutes read on your phone. The Reader Zone app is available to Download on the App Store, Get it on Google Play, or Get the Amazon App for your Kindle device.

Step Two: Join the Read to Rise program

  1. Create an account
  2. Enter the CapEd Read to Rise Reading code: b38b7
  3. Find your school
  4. Select "Join" and you're in!

Step Three: Track the minutes read

Each time you open the app, you will see an "Enter Reading" field to type in the number of minutes read for the day. Submit it by selecting the "+ Submit Entry" button.

Forget to add minutes for the day? No problem! Find the "Enter Past Reading" link to update any days you may have missed!

Desktop Website Instructions

Here are the steps to get started with the desktop website.

Step One: Visit the Reader Zone website

Go to readerzone.com and create an account by selecting the "Sign Up" button at the top of the page. On the following screen, select "Parent" and fill in your account information.

Step Two: Join the Read to Rise program

Once you have created your account and logged in, you will be promoted to:

  1. Add your reader
  2. Enter the CapEd Read to Rise Reading code: b38b7
  3. Find your school
  4. Select "Join" and then "Continue"
  5. Pick your child's reading level from the drop down
  6. Add a book (optional)

Step Three: Track the minutes read

When you’re logged in to readerzone.com, you will see an "Enter Reading" field under your child's name to type in the number of minutes read for the day. Simply select the check mark to confirm and you're done!

Forget to add minutes for the day? No problem! Find the "Enter Past Reading" link to update any days you may have missed!
